Finally this worked for me:

booted into recovery
then opened adb shell
mount /system
cd system/app
rm com.google.android.apps.maps.apk
rebooted
installed backup com.google.android.apps.maps.apk
uninstalled Settings>Applications>Manage Applications
rebooted
and finally reinstalling from Market
